TYPES OF FUNERALS

Cremation

Since 15 March 2006, our country has been following the legislation of all EU Member States on cremation complying with the request of a large number of citizens. Pursuant to this Presidential Decree, this possibility is now offered to all citizens of the State regardless of their religious preferences.

Prerequisite for cremation is the express, without term or condition, statement of the deceased to their wish or the corresponding declaration by their relatives up to fourth degree by blood or marriage.

The cremation – a practice existed in the rest of Europe for decades – is now a reality in Greece.

Our funeral home undertakes safely and consistently the whole process of cremation.

At the Cremation Center in Ritsona, Evia (since September 2019) and at Sofia Crematorium in Sofia, Bulgaria, our funeral home provides cremation services of bodies and bones from exhumations. The family may wish to be present in the process.

The Cremation Center offers the possibility of organizing farewell ceremonies, coffee/meals, scattering and safekeeping of ashes. In addition, cinerary urns and memorial jewelry are available.

Useful Information:
  • Relatives or associated persons of the deceased should contact the funeral home which will undertake the cremation process in cooperation with the crematorium concerned.
  • The costs of cremation are covered by insurance funds up to an amount, as is the case for burial.
  • Each natural person has the possibility, before a notary, to define the type of their funeral ceremony, the place of burial or cremation, the way of managing their ashes and the person(s) who will carry out their wish (Law 344/1976, Article 35Α).
  • Cremation process lasts 2-3 hours.
  • The death must be declared within 60 hours to the competent registry office otherwise if this time limit expires, the body cannot be cremated.
